Last week I was completely absent from my blog, as I spent the entire workweek with a group of 10 other wonderful photographers from various walks of life; one even came all the way from Hong Kong. I enrolled in my first class at Central St. Martin’s School of Art & Design, a portrait photography course taught by Peter Cattrell. It covered the practical elements of lighting and using camera and other equipment to create various looks, using both ambient light and studio flash. See my picks from the week.
I learned a lot and will now challenge myself daily to use the Nikon flashes, umbrellas and stands I bought a few months ago to do this very thing. I’ve also started a project on Flickr, my on-again/off-again photography community, called 365 Days. One self-portrait posted every day for a year. Today is day two, so that’s my next agenda item after logging off here (and perhaps another cup of coffee).
On Thursday I will begin another portrait class, this one delving into the creative aspects of photographing people. It’s a 10-week course, one evening per week, so the pace will not be quite so demanding. Stay tuned.
