Clapham Junction

Jay and I spent two long days last week with Laura, our friendly relocation apartment agent. On Thursday we saw around 12 properties in Clapham, in southwest London. Clapham’s train station allows easy access anywhere, specifically a quick trip for Jay down to Gatwick. Plus it’s relatively affordable, although I’m still trying not think about the rent costs here, much less convert currency.

Thursday was rough, due to my general lack of sleep for the previous five days. Since arriving in London on Saturday, I hadn’t slept more than 3 hours at a time. Plus on Tuesday I started coming down with the bug that Jay suffered from earlier in the week. So I pulled myself mostly sleepless out of my sick bed to go and look at apartments all day.

On Friday I actually had a fair amount of sleep to work with, but I overdosed on cough medicine the night before, which left me in a medicine-head zombie state for most of the next day. We spent the day in Brighton, a city we both really liked. Bigger apartments, more built-in storage, and one really amazing penthouse apartment with a deck as big as the apartment itself. Oh, the parties we could host there! But the trip to London would be prohibitive should I find music work here, and the opportunities in Brighton for professional music are spotty at best.

So Clapham it is! We picked an apartment just a few blocks over from the train station, right next door to a large supermarket. Plus we are down the street from Lavender Hill, a busy and popular street for retail, restaurants, and nightlife. Victoria station is one stop away, and from there we can access the Underground network. Clapham Common is a short walk away as well, with outdoor jogging and entertainment in the summer.

Move date is February 15, which is also when the shipping company estimated our stuff will arrive. Military shipments took priority over our shipping container, delaying its departure from the port for about a week or so.

Lot’s of progress! Lavender Hill Mob is a favorite movie of mine, plus anything lavender just feels right, don’t you think?

Big Texas hugs for both of you.
